How to Build a Standing Planter Box
George VondriskaDescription
Learn how to build a standing planter box that not only looks like it should be part of your backyard, but is sturdy and will stand up to the elements. Because this box is made from cedar decking and 1-inch by 4-inch cedar planks, it will also be bug resistant. The video shows you how to square up the box, build great-looking legs, add a bottom shelf with even spacing between the planks and how to make everything nice and sturdy so the weight of the dirt and water doesn’t blow everything out.
Wet dirt is heavy, so the instructions provide what you need to know to make this project extra sturdy, using braces on the bottom and on the inside. To add to the structure, the project is glued and screwed. Waterproof glue makes the standing planter box last longer than if you were to use standard glue. This project was designed so that the pieces were all taken from standard 8-foot (96″) boards with very little waste.
This standing planter box (also known as a raised planter box) is also waist high so that you won’t be breaking your back when you work with the plants. This is also a great project to build for someone who wants to garden but cannot due to physical limitations.
Watch the video to learn how to build a standing planter box; and print the documentation for the list of tools, list of boards you’ll need and list of dimensions to cut the boards. You’ll have this woodworking project built in no time and you’ll be eating fresh vegetables and growing fresh herbs in no time.
