Planing Stock and Getting It Right (Sponsored by Woodmaster)
George VondriskaJoin George Vondriska on Tuesday, December 9th at 2:30 p.m. CT / 3:30 p.m. ET for a free woodworking tutorial sponsored by Woodmaster. There’s more to planing wood than simply pushing it through a planer and hoping for the best. In this session, we’ll explore an innovative new cutterhead from Woodmaster, review techniques for achieving the best planing results, demonstrate how to clean up edges with your planer, and discuss what planers can do that jointers can’t.

Sycamore is a very workable wood. It is NOT very hard, in fact, ash is 70% harder than sycamore. The hardness is comparable to that of longleaf pine. Quartersawn sycamore has a very unique and interesting grain pattern.
Thanks George, appreciate the discussion and demo. I've gotta run. I look forward to checking out the WoodMaster and seeing the next live session.
I notice you have a cover on your bed. I like that as I have mounted a bed for molding and where it attaches sometimes bends the metal on the bed where the bolts come through and then when I use the planer it leaves a mark in my board. This should help eliminate that.
